It has been argued that happiness at work is one of the driving forces which lead to desirable positive outcomes at work, some of the most valuable being:

  • Being more productive, achieving more and, importantly, achieving some sense of pleasure from this.
  • Enjoying better well-being. For an employee this means feeling confident in yourself – having a sense of self worth where you value and accept yourself. This embraces the feeling of having a purpose in life. When people feel as though they have a purpose in their life and their work, they feel like they belong. They feel like they matter.
  • Having a positive outlook. Whilst accepting that in work there will be setbacks and there may be tasks that you don’t enjoy, overall you see the opportunities that work and life can deliver for you rather than the threats.
