WEBINAR: Mental Toughness and Youth Work – Staff Development

23/05/17 @ 14:00 - 15:00 UTC+1

This live webinar will be in partnership with Ambition. Ambition is a leading national body and youth charity that sits at the heart of a network of organisations working with young people across the country.

This is the third webinar in this series focusing on applications within the youth work sector

Whilst the first webinar in this series focused on introducing mental toughness and the 4Cs framework and the second focused on its application with young people, the focus for this programme is on the wellbeing and performance of staff and groups of staff in organisations.

The programme examines sources of stress, pressure and challenge for leadership teams and for staff and how developing a positive mindset is key to staff development and performance.

The evidence shows that:

  • The mentally tough approach things more positively and can identify opportunity where others only see threats. They deal more effectively with stressors.
  • The mental toughness of those engaged in developing young people is, itself a factor in the mental toughness of young people. Not only is this a key quality for a challenging role but young people see their tutors and facilitators as role models.
  • Mental Toughness correlates strongly with staff retention, performance and their wellbeing.

The session will explore:

  • Why assessing Mental Toughness is important – to direct intervention and evaluate change.
  • Developing this in individuals and in organisations – approaches, tools and techniques.
  • How to coach for mental toughness.
  • How this approach can be cascaded down into all areas of the organisation and the programmes staff will be delivering.

This session is designed for those who are responsible for or have an interest in staff development and wellbeing.
